MEDICAL OFFICER

JOB PURPOSE :

To ensure that the company personnel and eligible contractors are medically and psychologically fit to perform effectively to meet company needs and requirements by providing and maintaining high quality holistic, emergency, primary and occupational medical care.

KEY RESULT AREAS :

· Demonstrate familiarity with, and implementation of all company policies, procedures and standards to ensure compliance with company organizational needs & requirements.

· Promoted health and well being by performing periodic and routine physical examinations, consultations and physiological testing.

· Demonstrates sound physical judgment by formulating informed diagnoses, interpreting investigation results and prescribing and administering medications accurately.

· Ensures that all clinical information is available when required by maintaining timely, accurate and confidential medical records.

· Pro-actively promotes health and well being by formulating, implementing and participating in health education activities.

· Ensures that medical emergency coverage is available to all staff and dependants by remaining at the workplace during normal duty hours and participating in “on-call” duties as required.

· Ensures that safety, health and environmental policies and procedures are being observed by initiating and participating in public health and industrial hygiene activities.

· Assists the development of career and succession planning for national employees by supervising, coaching and mentoring subordinate staff members.

· Displays knowledge of current clinical practice by demonstrating commitment to gaining qualifications and participating in appropriate continuous medical education activities.

· Demonstrates leadership potential by performing professionally, effectively and with sensitivity, with all members of the multinational, multidisciplinary team.

OPERATING ENVIRONMENT, FRAMEWORK AND BOUNDARIES :

Operating Environment

· Part of the company’s Employee Development and Welfare Group

· Provide comprehensive energy, primary and occupational health care from purpose built medical clinics in the company’s industrial plant and off-shore facilities.

· Perform public health functions in the form of audits and inspections to the company’s living and working facilities.

· Enhance Emergency medical services in co-operation with the company, the parent company and Government Emergency services.

· Provide entry into state health care system by referral.

· Liaise with other health care providers and emergency care providers.

Framework and Boundaries

· Works within established company’s EDW Group policies & procedures

· Works within company’s Elements of Excellence integrated management system.

COMMUNICATIONS AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS :

· Daily / frequent contacts with people at all levels of the organization and residents of the company’s residential community.

· Promotes multidisciplinary approach to medical care by coaching, mentoring and encouraging teamwork.

· Supports all the Medical officers of the company.

· Directly supervised, guided and supported by the Medical Services Manager.

· Prepares reports or reports indirectly to other Managers within the organization when required.

· Contact with external customers and service providers, National Health Authority and Hamad Medical Corporation on ad hoc basis.

PROBLEM SOLVING / COMPLEXITY :

· Required to correctly identify illness and / or job hazard and ensure that the correct treatment is administered or corrective action taken.

· Required to promote confidence and trust in the medical care available, in a range of circumstances, including emergency or urgent situations.

· Required to deal with sensitive issues associated with health care needs, complaints and conflicts in a culturally appropriate and professional manner.

DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITY :

· Conducts professional medical duties with a high degree of autonomy in compliance with internationally recognized standard medical practice guidelines, national laws, regulations and policies & established of the company as well.

· Is accountable for own actions and / or omissions and is responsible for seeking expert advice when situations exceed knowledge or capabilities.

· Is responsible for setting own professional and career goals and objectives & optimizing training opportunities with the guidance of the Medical services Manager.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE :

· M.B.Ch.B. or equivalent

· 10 years clinical experience in appropriate areas of expertise (Emergency, Primary Health, Occupational Health)

· Association to or member of a faculty medicine. (Arab Board, Occupation Health, Royal College of Physicians or similar)

· Post Graduation qualification in a relevant specialty is an advantage.

· Excellent command of written and spoken English.

· Supervisory or Managerial experience will be a big plus.

· Must be a computer literate in MS Office tools.

· Previous work experience in a multi-national, multicultural environment is very important for this role.

· Proof of commitment to continuing medical education.
