POSITION: CORPORATE BUSINESS PLANNING ANALYST

Department: Corporate Planning

Direct Supervisor: Senior Advisor - Strategic Planning & Performance

Job Purpose:

This role is responsible for providing professional support to the Strategic Planning & Performance Section’s activities, particularly the areas of the portfolio management of Opportunity Profiles and in reviewing and updating Planning Assumptions including the consolidation of external markets intelligence data and keeping them updated, evaluation models, also contributing to benchmarking, performance analysis, continuous improvement and various reporting in the department.

Key Result Areas:

· Future Development Assumptions, External Markets Fundamentals and Macro-Economic data & Pricing Forecasts for Situation Analysis & Strategic Planning, Strategic Calendar are kept current.

· Coordinade and prepare global scenarios for strategic planning

· Contribution to the quality and usefulness of reports.

· Understanding of the Key Business Drivers.

· Contribution to the work of the Senior Analysts as required

Activities:

· Assist in the coordination of meetings with and data collection from external consultants and Coordinators in each Group.

· Assist in developing and managing the interface & relationship with external consultants

· Validate and align the data from the various sources within and outside the company.

· Analyse and review the data collected to ensure accuracy, consistency, lack of overlap and its relevance to the company’s planning activities.

· Provide input to and assist in the preparation of the monthly FDA, Long Term Planning Assumptions, Strategic Calendar, and other planning information and data for incorporation in the strategic and business planning and WP&B activities of the company.

· Coordinate the distribution of the department reports to all relevant parties.

· Assist in the maintenance of the CPD documentation.

· Undertake periodic reviews of the existing Key Business Drivers (KBDs) and determine their currency and relevance.

· Identify potential external activities or information which may be incorporated in the KBDs.

· Analyse the portfolio of Opportunity Profiles and identify issues of future resource requirements, potential conflicts of timing and potential associated costs.

· Investigate global trends and issues which might need to be considered in the development and maintenance of the company’s Economic Model.

· Participate in and contribute to committee meetings where CPD input is required or the meeting output needs to be known, as requested by the Section Senior Advisor/Corporate Planning Manager.

· Assist in the development of presentations and other material for external audiences.

· Prepares special reports at the request of the Senior Advisor - Strategic Planning & Performance

· Carry out similar and other duties as may be requested by the Senior Advisor - Strategic Planning or Corporate Planning Manager.

Operating Environment, Framework and Boundaries:

· Works in accordance with the company’s policies, procedures and code of conduct.

· Receives broad direction from the Senior Advisor - Strategic Planning and the Senior Analysts but the incumbent is required to demonstrate a high degree of initiative.

Communications and Working Relationships:

Internal

· Daily meetings with the Senior Advisor - Strategic Planning & Performance and sometimes with the Corporate Planning Manager.

· Frequent meetings, interaction and information sharing with colleagues in Corporate Planning and other planning divisions.

· Occasional meetings with managers and staff of all Groups/Departments for the purpose of information exchange.

External

Occasional meetings with external contacts for the purpose of collecting relevant information useful in the preparation of the company’s strategic and business plans.

Problem Solving/Complexity:

· The breadth to issues to be considered requires the ability to work with variety of individuals / interest and gain consensus in multicultural environment.

· Requires the ability to work with variety of tools and models covering a wide area of activities and open ended problems.

· Develops and analyses more complex business and project proposals and provides useful information for planning purposes.

· The range and volume of activities within the company requires a very high level of managing multiple tasks and focussing on the delivery of quality results from each.

Decision Making Authority and Responsibility:

· Participates in and contributes to teams setting and revising the business plan and making other business decisions.

· Plans and executes own work program within the requirements of the Section and Department and sets goals accordingly.

· Has autonomy over scheduling and planning of work within programs as delegated.

· Work is reviewed by more senior staff (Senior Analyst / Section Manager).

· More significant or complex issues are referred for advice or decisions.

Knowledge Skills and Experience:

· Appropriate degree from a recognized university in Economicy or other relevant discipline.

· MBA or equivalent post-graduate degree is beneficial.

· 5 - 10 years experience in a major, multi-functional organisation, preferably in the oil and gas industry, as an economist or in planning, market reaserch or financial area.

· Experience in business planning, including perhaps budgeting, is highly desirable.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to perform in multi-cultural environment.

· Knowledge and skills to link operational activities to the economical and financial impacts, risk assessment and trends in future performance.

· History of strong performance in previous roles. Specialised functional knowledge of applicable processes and tools.

· Some knowledge of the complexity of the company’s business and the wider energy market is desirable.

· Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence across functions.

· Some experience and competence with economic modelling and scenario-planning tools and methodologies.

· Good computer skills with excellent knowledge in data base, librairy of all MS Office applications.
